In this course we will explore the main characteristics of history of education, the current problems and debates, the methodological issues and the new trends of research both in Italy and in the european context. We will pay a special attention to the religious education in school.

Knowledge and understanding:
- understanding of the main themes, and the new trends and debates of the historical research regarding the educational matters.
Applying knowledge and understanding:
- ability to research, comprehend and synthesize scholarly texts and videos.
Making judgments:
- be able to recognize the line of argumentation inside a scholarly text and be able to express autonomous and documented personal judgments
Communication skills:
- be able to communicate in the history of education with cleary and documented argumentations following the common rules of the scholarly community of research
Learning skills:
- be able to build an autonomous way to study and analyze the topis of the course
Note: the educational outcomes of this course are useful for the basic preparation of a head of school or a director of educational services.

Basic knowledge of the contemporary history.

Teacher-centered method of instruction with slides and online digital resources; analysis of academic articles and videos (in english langue) with a collective discussion on the topics; work groups; personal presentation of autonomous works; activities on the Moodle platform.
Students have two ways to participate in lessons:
1) participating in Laura street classrooms;
2) making use of Moodle class tools, especially the sound recordings [asynchronous learning], http://e-l.unifi.it.

The assigned articles can be downloaded from university library (http://www.sba.unifi.it).
It's mandatory to sign up to the moodle class.

Assessment
Individual work: portfolio with activities made during the course.
Oral exam: discussion on the individual works and the assigned texts.
